Centurion Base Tutorial

I have had some request to take pictures of whenever I do a base. I am trying to paint more and a little faster which means I have to let go of some of my quirks. I don’t want to spend tons of time on this type of figure anymore for my armies, especially my Cygnar army. This base is fairly quick and to the point.

The first step is to clear coat your figure. Since I have demonstrated how to glue sand to bases in other tutorials I will not show that process. Instead I will just show the dry sand applied to the base

The next step is to paint the base. Try and keep the first coat as dark as possible. You will be lightening it up with dry brushing. I chose a more reddish color for the first coat. Water down your paint a little bit too so the rocks will show through.

Now you want to dry brush some lighter colors. I chose a pale tan, buckskin color and a gray. I also did a light dark wash around the rocks and in between the legs of the fig to show a little shadow effect.

Next comes the glue placement for the grass. I used white glue and then spread it around with a tooth pick. I wanted more grass on this than what I normally do. This grass mixture also has other pieces of terrain features in it.

Now at this point the grass looks to barren and plain. I have spare roots, small bark and other small pieces that I randomly put on there to change things up. I also took a larger root and glued that to the base. I then took some foam turf and applied a couple small pieces of that to the base. Just make it random because that is how nature works.

This base was kind of fast. I was not very patient tonight and wanted this figure done. This just shows that even when in a hurry you can create a decent looking base from arms length away. After all if you have 750 points worth of machines on the board painted, that is what really counts.
